This AMG version of the S 500 initially featured a 5.4L V8 engine, but models after 2001 were fitted with a supercharged version of the 5.4L V8 that produced 493 hp. Production of the W220 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG ended in 2005 and the model series discontinued.
